Taxpayer Advocate Office

Taxpayer Advocate – Your Allied To Resolve Issues With The IRS …Quickly!

If you ever feel that you have been harmed in any shape or form by the actions of the IRS …or, as it was in my case, they had lost the paper work of my tax return – you can contact the office of the Advocate!

It is an agency that – as the name suggest – works with the IRS on the behalf of the taxpayer.

They are NOT part of the IRS, but upon request of a taxpayer they will contact the IRS and try to resolve the issue that you, taxpayer could not.

My experience was that home loan was on hold because one of the IRS transcripts could not be found in the IRS’ files. It went all the way to closing date when my loan officer asked me to call the IRS…to check what was the reason that particular year was not being sent to us.

Calling The IRS

My home loan officer gave me a number that she thought would connect a sure shot to talk with someone at the IRS, however that came not to be the case.

After doing some detective work and calling the IRS in many different numbers that did not allow me to speak with a real person, I finally was successful in speaking with a real person.

However that was just tip of the iceberg… I came to discover that the reason that transcripts were not showing for that year was because IRS had lost the paperwork of  my tax return.

Along with the return I had included a check which had been cashed AND it was properly credited to my account, the record showed …Therefore I could never had suspected that the paperwork was missing.

In any case I was politely asked to refile the tax return …and wait – no less than – six to eight weeks …all the while the closing on my condo was on hold :- (

Role Of The Taxpayer Advocate Office

I was suggested to contact the Taxpayer Advocate office and see if they could expedite the processing of my refilling.

It was a very good experience from the get go! They promised that they would be in touch in one week …and they called exactly on the day they said they would and from there on they set their own time frame and always called when promised.

Still it was no miracle because my refilling was being processed.

However the tax advocate who was my case worker stayed with it and she got the issue resolved in much shorter time …then even after she told to go back calling the IRS, they still told me that it was not showing of my records…

I called my case worker one more time and that afternoon I had my IRS transcripts which was holding my closing AND the rest is history: Here I am sitting on my nice condo!

Keep in mind that the Taxpayer Advocate Office exists to resolve issue that you could not resolve with the IRS! And, therefore, it is, in some fashion, being a burden or is harming you.

It also has to be time sensitive – If paperwork of my tax return had gone missing this year – that I do not need the transcript to present to a lender, I could very well wait those 6 to 8 weeks for the refiling run ‘through its normal course’ …this current year, it would not harm me at all as I do not have any time constraints to present to present IRS transcripts… Obviously there is no need for a taxpayer advocate intervention ;- )

So try to resolve your issue(s) directly with the IRS by yourself first…By the way I never had any other issues with the IRS in more than 50 fillings – to include business …so I think this is a great track record for that agency as well!

But here is the Taxpayer Advocate Office hot line: 1-877-777-4778 – I did not keep notes for menus but I do recall that I connect with a real person on my first try without much wait.

Once they ‘took me under their wings’ I did NOT need to call the IRS myself – the taxpayer advocate did it for me!

I have glowing reviews for the people who work there …They work very diligently on the taxpayer’s behalf and get matter resolved in timely manner! Alas!

Best of luck!
